Fire crew charity climb of Surrey's tallest tower

by Claire

A fire crew has successfully completed an eight-hour stair climb of Surrey's tallest tower for charity.

Newly-recruited firefighters from Surrey Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) completed their challenge of walking up and down the 34-storey Tower 1 in Woking's Victoria Square in full kit at 18:00 BST on Tuesday.

The residential skyscraper complex consists of three towers, with Tower 1 being the highest at 384ft (117m).

The crew has so far raised more than £5,500 for the Fire Fighters Charity, surpassing their target.

A fire service spokesperson said the money would provide "essential support and rehabilitation for those brave firefighters who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe".

SFRS raised more than £100,000 for the charity in 2024 through charity walks, car washes and open days.
